Places + Children = Learning

A publication from Places Projects
In our working as creative collaborators along side young children many people have said to us “ You really should write a book about what you do”. But we never got around to doing it. Then one day the suggestion was different. “You really should write a book about the way the children respond to the things they find in the city.” And that was why the book was written...
It is a book for teachers, parents and other collaborators who decide to share a creative journey through the city that they find around them.

One traveller had this to say about what is a journal of many such jouneys :

This book offers a thought provoking account of how adults and children experience and learn together about the real world and the possible worlds of the imagination. This takes place as they discover and explore new places within the built environment. It’s the investigation that matters to young children and this is beautifully portrayed in the photographs.

The more we understand the potential of young children’s minds the better we will be able to support them on their imaginative journeys.

I believe that this book will inspire practitioners to think more deeply about the pleasure that can be shared with young children who notice wonderful things that as adults we may have long ignored.
